• Architected the data analytics platform powering Amazon’s 3P display advertising. Our platform processes several terabytes of data per day from variety of different sources inside and outside of Amazon. Key highlights are:
• a) Led the cross-team development effort to build a decentralized “data-driven” workflow system that runs thousands of workflows per day on a cluster of nodes. Users of the workflow system can focus on implementing their business logic without needing to know in what order their business logic needs to run. This system is in use by several teams at Amazon.
• b) Led the architecture and development of the end-to-end ETL pipeline employing a 1300+ node hadoop cluster for running our Map-Reduce applications. Data is extracted from variety of sources and processed results are published to multiple systems.
• c) Developed a system to monitor the health of the entire platform as well as ensuring the statistical correctness of the produced data and automatically alarm on any anomalies. d) Developed automation and best practices for performing backfills of data in the event of errors/anomalies in the data.
• Conceptualized and implemented some of the core algorithms to measure the effectiveness of the display ads on consumer’s retail behaviour. These algorithms include a) measuring Lift in customer's spending behavior because of being exposed to display ads, b) attribution of customer actions to causal ad exposure across different channels (mobile apps, kindle eBooks, websites)
• Designed the storage layout of customer events that helped increase the computational efficiency manifold when producing “customer centric” metrics like “unique users” and “conversion attribution’.
• Led the early design and implementation efforts for Amazon’s Display Advertising Service that handles billions of requests per day and shows targeted advertisements to amazon customers anywhere on the internet.
