My technical expertise involves using 1D/3D simulation to support advanced development at OEM and Tier-1 companies. Here are my work achievements divided into 3 domains (limited to 2000 words)
Hybrid:
● Designed a P1 and P2 48V mild hybrid vehicle model for a large SUV with an LD-GCI engine with a 16 kW ISG and 8 kWh battery. The novel setup resulted in a 105% fuel economy improvement in an FTP cycle over the baseline vehicle.
● Developed a P0 mild hybrid Ford F-150 demonstration vehicle with a Tier-I supplier to showcase the fuel economy benefit of hybridization to achieve the US 2025 emissions standards.
● Built a complete vehicle systems model in GT-SUITE to simulate US drive cycles. The model included a 2L turbocharged gasoline DI engine, electric motor, electric battery, e-Booster, and P0 hybrid supervisory controls. Results published at SAE World Congress 2018.
Internal Combustion Engine (ICE):
● Evaluated the effect of variable compression ratio [VCR], variable valve timing [VVT], and levels of external exhaust gas recirculation [EGR] on engine fuel economy and performance.
● Results from the above project were a 7.2% fuel economy benefit at low speed low loads, and a 5.8% fuel economy benefit at low speed high loads.
● Simulated water injection with VCR, VVT, and EGR technologies to show a 23% fuel economy benefit at high speed high loads. Results published at SAE World Congress in 2019.
● Tested a 6 speed transmission to calculate the spin loss and the variables it depends on. Used this data to develop a spin loss model for a 6 speed transmission in GT-drive.
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD):
● Improved prototype development of a Generac generator enclosure by analyzing flow speed and temperatures in CONVERGE CFD and evolving designs to reduce velocity magnitude (noise) by 19.1% and increasing flow rate by 21.3%
● Analyzed cold steady flow, and combustion analysis of cylinder head designs of an 8.8L PFI gasoline engines using a 3D CFD tool CONVERGE.
