XLRI Lifetime Achievement Award Citation 2024 Verghese K Jacob is an Electronics Engineer, with an MBA in Marketing and Finance from XLRI, Jamshedpur (BM 1979). Verghese has over 45 years of corporate and social sector experience. He worked for over 20 years for the Godrej&Boyce group of companies, handling multifunctional assignments such as Head of Marketing of Industrial Products, Head of Machine tools division, Group Vice President (HRD) and CEO of a Joint Venture. After quitting active corporate life in the late nineties, Verghese has served the social sector, running and guiding many charitable Foundations and social enterprises. Verghese is still involved with some corporates, as Director and CSR Mentor. Verghese has served as member of several CII National Councils such as HR, Quality, CSR and NGO forums. As the Chief Integrator of Byrraju Foundation for over a decade, Verghese spearheads one of India’s largest NGOs focused on rural transformation. Byrraju Foundation has adopted 200 villages and runs several programs, impacting over two million people. Byrraju Foundation were actively involved in incubating 108 and 104, which have scaled across the country, as successful PPP Models. Verghese actively supports many other social causes and organizations across India. He is the Founder Trustee of Care for Your Kidney Foundation and FCBS, focusing on Science Education. He also mentors foundations in other domains such as Mental Health, Disability, Microfinance and Geriatric care. Verghese played a key role in Rebuild Kerala Mission, mobilizing resources, rehabilitation and building new houses. Verghese’s mission in life is to enable Indian social sector to increase their impact significantly with least resources, by adopting the latest management and technology innovations. Verghese is a Six Sigma Master Black Belt. He was awarded the Tech Laureate award in 2008 by Computerworld, USA, at Washington DC. Verghese serves on the Board of Advisors of CGEIL, the flagship inclusive program of XLRI. Verghese’s other passions are tennis and bridge and has played both games at the national level. He has survived many health crises and still leads a very active life. His motto is “ Never say die, till you really die”.
