Tasked by Group to pursue its vision of leveraging existing MNO infrastructure and assets to offer low-cost mobile financial services (MFS) at scale. Led in the development, launch and scaling of fintech innovations such as EcoCash (mobile money) and EcoSure (mobile micro-insurance), which were among the first such deployments in Africa.
Within 3 years, the services became profitable businesses, with significant contributions to MNO revenue. Both EcoCash and EcoSure became internationally acclaimed services, earning global recognition (such as GSMA GLOMO awards). The success of the MFS business led to the Group’s decision to spin it off from the MNO and operate it as a separate legal entity leading to it becoming the first MFS business listed on a stock exchange in Africa.
