Jagdish Mitra is an entrepreneur, focussing on Gen AI services coupled with Industry domain use-cases. Since January 24 he was head of India business and Corporate affairs for Tech Mahindra. Prior to this Jagdish was The Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Growth for Tech Mahindra , responsible for driving growth for Tech Mahindra. He was also responsible for Large deals, Global Alliances and the enterprise business verticals (erstwhile Satyam ) of Tech Mahindra Jagdish is also responsible for driving the new growth business at Tech Mahindra. Previously he served as CEO of CanvasM. In his 31 years of career he has played many roles spanning across sales, business development and large deals. He has opened new markets for TechM in North America, UK, Middle East, Australia New Zealand and South East Asia apart from India. He is on the board of NSDC ( National Skill Development Corporation) and the Executive Council of NASSCOM. As the governing body for NASSCOM, the Executive Council plays the strategic role of enabling the IT-BPM sector take leadership on the global map through focused initiatives and programs. He serves as board member of Comviva. He is an active member of CII- Future Business Council and Start Up Council & on the National Committee on Skill Development and Livelihood. He is also an advisor to MedTech startup incubated at Sine, IIT Bombay. He regularly mentors startups in B2B Tech space like SKTA in Silicon Valley. He is a sought after speaker in the leadership circle in India and internationally. He sees collaboration as the biggest virtue of a true leader and attributes his success to it. He believes AI, automation, digital can enable us to create meaningful human experiences of the future. He is a sports enthusiast, loves football and plays squash. He is passionate about imparting sports training to underprivileged kids. He is founder of a Jishnu football foundation that trains and awards scholarships to high potential kids from challenged backgrounds. He also volunteers for educating and empowering young students at Tech Mahindra Foundation. Jagdish holds a Master’s Degree in Computer Applications from Birla Institute of Technology and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of London. One fine morning I made a proposal to the management team about creating a combined service offering where we drive business outcomes by combining technology development , deployment and operations. The company agreed on my proposal and asked me to set up a business , this business became the first step towards our BPO business as well as shared services centre and a complete operations ownership . We were able to win critical outsourcing deals from outsourced support 24 * 7 from India, bureau service on billing , managed IT and operations for total outsourcing in Indonesia and Mobile based content delivery for UEFA . This set up the base for our managed service practice . In 2006 we re-branded the company as Tech Mahindra and went public.

  • On my return from UK , a rookie sales and business development manager , after about 6 months of shadowing my CEO in India and middle east , I was given the opportunity to create business outside of British Telecom as an account and open up North America.
  • This was my first startup experience, starting from a small room in Atlanta as the Tech Mahindra office being responsible for everything from cold calls, marketing , creating and managing GTM . This was the most enriching experience of being a intrapreneur and growing the business from scratch.

  • It was then called Mahindra British Telecom and yes that's were my journey began in corporate world. I was Business Analyst for the customer service system; British Telecom core IT system which was also at that time one of the largest IT applications in the world. I was responsible for gathering requirements from the business , mainly new products and converting it into systems requirements for the technology team to build and implement.
  • This was also the times of many firsts.
  • This was my first foray into the world of engaging clients and customers.
  • The business owners for one of my key projects were in Liverpool and this was also when I was inducted as a fan of the Liverpool football club.

  • This was an amazing experience of not just creating a start-up but managing two large organisations with two different cultures – Motorola and Tech Mahindra, and on top of it venturing into the new world of Mobile applications and devices. I set up base in Noida, from one room in a Tech Mahindra facility to a company which created opportunities for 1200 associates and 3 new business – value added services , enterprise mobility and devices experience assurance. In 2014 , Tech Mahindra then bought Motorola’s equity and created 3 business units within the company. One of the most enduring memories of this stint was the ability to create a set up which spawned 3 new direct to customer businesses and started a separate incubator – Tech Mahindra Growth factories.
  • During the period of 2009 to 2011 after TechM acquired Satyam , I also took the additional responsibility of APJ region for Tech Mahindra communications business. This was an excellent opportunity to work across a wide variety of markets , India, China , South East Asia , Australia , New Zealand and Japan .
  • I was also part of two very significant acquisition teams one for Satyam and then for Comviva. I also took up my first board position with Comviva at this time.
