I’ve been on both sides of the daily stand-up: the engineer zoning out, and the manager watching the clock on what feels like the most expensive 30 minutes of the day. My first attempt to solve this was through a tool called MyCheckins, which replaced the meeting with async updates. But I learned something crucial: people still want to talk to each other. They just hate the feeling of ending a stand-up only to realize they need *another meeting* to talk about what actually matters. That led me to a different question: What if we handled the status updates *before* the meeting? Then, our time together could be for what truly matters: helping each other with blockers, learning from one another, and actually connecting as a team.
