About

“Just Transition” – the transition to cleaner fuels must be one that is fair and non-traumatic – one that various nations can manage without compromising the key needs of their people. I am deeply invested in helping India move to a more sustainable path. With very significant resources of coal and lignite, and a rapidly developing economy, India cannot help but use its coal reserves for some decades to come. However, this can be done in a more sustainable manner – that is what drives me to work deeply in the field of coal gasification. Underground coal and lignite gasification (UCG). Wit UCG, there is no need to mine the coal, no need to burn the coal, no need to dispose or reuse the fly ash. All of this happens smoothly and safely underground – the only thing that comes out of the ground is Synthesis Gas – SynGas, a mixture of Hydrogen and Carbon Monoxide – a perfect substitute to natural gas. In this way, coal gets converted to clean gaseous fuel underground, dramatically reducing the emissions and overall negative environmental impact. This way, India can access energy vis coal, but in a significantly cleaner manner – truly just transition! Also helping create the complete REE based permanent magnet ecosystem in India means establishing a value chain starting with a mine, then a concentration plant, then a refinery to create REO’s (Rare Earth Oxides), then going on to creating the pure metal, then the magnet and onwards to motors. This is an undertaking that has strategic relevance for many countries and I am helping drive the global collaboration needed to bring this into existence.

  • Both these projects help the movement towards sustainability.
  • I have helped craft meaningful relationships with Monash University of Australia, IIT-ISM Dhanbad, Exeter University of England and am working closely with several international partners to help bring the complete REE based Permanent Magnet ecosystem to India via GMDC.

  • Anupam is the promoter of GreenOil ( www.greenoil.in ) which is a venture funded research and innovation based social enterprise that produces renewable energy and enriched organic manure using locally available organic and farming waste.
  • It has created a unique model that starts with the financial viability of converting available waste into energy at a particular price, THEN designs the plant around that economic viability point so as to assure return of investment within 3 to 4 years.
  • GreenOil is a renewable energy company created with a vision to democratize energy and heal the earth. Everything we do responds to this prerogative. GreenOil proposes a virtuous circle that not only reduces harm, but actually leaves our environment better than we found it. We are not carbon neutral; we go one step further employing a model that is actually carbon negative. GreenOil’s Anaerobic Digesters are in the process of creating benchmarks for the lowest cost and highest efficiency technology available in the biomass-generated energy market. This is key to fulfilling our vision of making renewable energy accessible to communities in need worldwide.
