About

Through my leadership, I have successfully contributed to building innovation ecosystems, organisations, teams & programs that have positively transformed societies. I played a key role in the evolving biotech and medtech entrepreneurial ecosystem in India. As COO of ABLE (India’s nodal biotech association), I authored the #policy blueprint (titled: Indian Biotechnology: The Roadmap to the Next Decade & Beyond) of the Indian Biotechnology 2025 Roadmap at the behest of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India which was published in 2012 (refer BIRAC's webpage). As the Founding Head Strategy, Partnership, Entrepreneurship Development of #BIRAC (India's nodal #innovation agency), In-charge Head of IP & Coordinator for "Make in India" (in biotech), I was part of the founding team in designing an architecture of Indian biotech entrepreneurial ecosystem. My team designed & deployed >17 national #programs that've collectively funded & supported more than 4000 biotech/medtech startups, established a dozen national & global partnerships, supported 80 #incubators. Collectively, this was instrumental in development of more than 500 #medtech & biotech #products. These are India’s most sought after innovation programs- Biotech Ignition Grant (#BIG; India’s largest early-stage funding program) & social innovation program, #SPARSH (#socialinnovation), #BioNest (#incubation), BIRAC-PATH (for IP), #SoCH (innovations in sustainability), BIRAC #SEED & BIRAC AcE Fund -an equity 'fund of fund' to name a few. These programs are catalysing the emergence of biotech & medtech startups. As Founding CEO of BITS BioCyTiH Foundation, I built a non-profit Foundation from scratch within the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology & Science: established processes, designed & delivered programs including a portfolio of 25 innovators/startups, 40 researchers, 30 translational research projects, 5 labs across 4 campuses, 9 convenings & a team of 13- all within 12 months. As Director of Global Innovations, PATH & founding Director of Impact Lab, I helped build an innovation platform for PATH in India which laid the ground for PATH’s engagement with the Indian innovation ecosystem in a structured way. Currently, a Board Member of Venture Center (India's largest S&T incubator) with >100 resident startups & Board Member of Cygenica (a Indo-Irish startup) funded by GOI & SOSV. My leadership is engaging, participatory, compassionate, empathetic, focused and decisive. I believe in designing “best in class” teams, organisations & programs. And I do not believe in Jugaad.

Longitude prize, nesta uk

Consultant

Nov 2019Oct 2020 · 11 mos · Berlin, Germany

  • Working with the Head of Longitude Prize, I contributed to providing a strategy report regarding the status of the global startup & innovator teams who are applicants for the £8M prize- these teams are developing a point of care diagnostics for #AMR (antimicrobial resistance). My report informed Longitude Prize's decision to extend the deadline of the prize to September 2022 from December 2019.
  • The report evolved from a deep dive I did with the startups and innovators to understand their challenges during in-vitro diagnostics product development including technology challenges, and issues related to engineering, manufacturing, product development vendors, clinical validation, standards and regulation. In addition, I helped Longitude Prize design and deliver two global workshops (as part of their Sprint program) in important areas of medtech regulation and funding. These workshops provided platforms for innovators in #AMR to actively engage with global experts from different geographies.
