About

Engineer -> MBA -> Corporate (Aam Zindagi) Corporate Career -> Writer (Mentos Zindagi) Past: My career has been a series of twists and turns, some by choice, some unexpected. I prepared for GATE throughout my B. Tech., intending to stay in the "Core" sector. I started in a government PSU job, totally intending to work there until my retirement. But then, FOMO hit me when people all around me were going for MBAs. I found myself in XLRI, a square peg in a culture of cutthroat competition. I still have mixed feelings about the MBA structure in India, which glorifies manufactured crises with its high-pressure culture in imitation of the Indian corporate culture. It's a chicken and egg story. A series of jobs followed, my payslips kept increasing, while I kept feeling like an alien in whichever company I went to. People around me were (and are) putting in 80-100 hour weeks, working on weekends like automatons chasing their next EMI. Confusion: I was puzzled. Is that what life should be? Is it just an endless chase to buy the next home, car, iPhone, or whatever new flashy thing is in vogue that year. Conclusion: After 5 years of this suffering, I had enough. I love to travel. I had finally arrived at what I wanted to do in this life. 1. Writing, because a man's gotta feed himself. 2. Travel, because a man's gotta feed his soul too. Now, on to the boring stuff: 🎓 Education: I hold an MBA from XLRI, Jamshedpur and a B.Tech. from MANIT, Bhopal 🖋️ Passion for Writing and Continuous Learning: My journey as a freelance writer is based on a passion for writing and curiosity for learning new things. I love exploring a range of topics, from history, geopolitics, high-altitude trekking, culture, and literature, to the intricacies of consumer behaviour, dark patterns in e-commerce, and the ever present scams in our society. 🌐 Experience: I have contributed articles to reputable platforms such as The Hindu, showcasing my ability to communicate effectively and engage audiences across niches. My tenures with The Times of India Group and MakeMyTrip Category team have equipped me with extensive writing, content, and travel planning expertise, both in India and abroad. • With Wyzr, I started my journey as a freelance writer, converting a series of acclaimed non-fiction books into an easy-to-digest audiobook script format optimized for Indian audiences.
  • We followed this up with Content-as-a-Service offerings wherein we wrote long- and short-form content for clients like Zetwerk, Zerodha, Z47, and others. It was really enjoyable to research diverse topics and create compelling narrative storylines from those. It expanded my knowledge base and gave me new insights into a lot of topics I knew nothing about.
  • I wrote deeply researched long-form content pieces and created LinkedIn posts for the top leadership of Zetwerk & Unimacts USA. I worked on their website content (zetwerk.com, unimacts.com) to revamp these entirely from the content POV.

Senior Manager, Marketing (Domino's India)

Sep 2022Aug 2023 · 11 mos · Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India · On-site

  • First things first, the top management and people culture is horrible. Late-night deadlines, phone calls in the middle of the night, and other such things are just routine in the workplace. I earned some money and made a few friends. Otherwise, this was a complete waste of my time.
  • In the Domino's India marketing team, I handled food aggregator partnerships primarily with Swiggy & Zomato for 1700+ Domino’s stores. The primary role was to optimize P&L through optimal planning of menu mix, promos, & visibility spends.
  • Most of my time was spent on discount planning, stakeholder management, and making last-minute changes (read, firefighting) to said plans.
  • Overall, I ran some campaigns, spent money on discounts, and maintained a positive ROI on those discount spends. It's not rocket science.

Career break

Gap year

Jul 2021Aug 2022 · 1 yr 1 mo · India

  • Absolutely loved this chance to sit out of the rat race.
  • Also, I utilised this gap to know myself better, my strengths, weaknesses, and behaviour patterns.
  • I travelled across India, from the jungles of Bastar to temples of Madurai and Nepal to the cold deserts of Spiti for months on end. I met people from different fields of life, like passers-by on a journey with no deadline. It was exciting and enriching at the same time. I went on treks, spent time with my family, and took them on a 23-day Saurashtra and a 15-day Nepal trip. This felt fulfilling and a great use of this opportunity.
  • It was indeed difficult at times, to live with no income, and there were highs as well as lows. But now when I look back, it did change me as a person and allowed me to know myself better.
