About

A finance graduate from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai, Nitin Mehrotra started this career as an investment banker in India. A road trip to Rajasthan inspired Nitin to return to his roots - textiles. He inadvertently began interacting with the local shop owners and artisans, and learnt how age old craftsmanship is passed on generation after generation. He soon realised that while the art is being preserved, the artist is not truly experimenting. That’s when he spotted an opportunity and decided to create a brand where Indian fabrics seamlessly flowed in western silhouettes. With a one-track vision to plug this gap, Dressfolk was born in 2017. What started as an east meets west sustainable clothing brand, is today on a mission to modernise the timeless Indian weaves, while empowering the local artisans community. While many designer-led brands focused on making Indian craftsmanship ‘high-end’, there was no brand that catered to the mindfully fashionable everyday consumer. Nitin’s long-term vision is to build the most compelling destination for luxurious and high-quality Indian looms.
