About

Shawn Lim is the founder of Human Algorithm, a storytelling-led media platform and personal brand studio that helps creators, leaders, and one-person businesses grow with clarity, authenticity, and purpose. He is also the host of The Human Algorithm Podcast, where he speaks with founders, creatives, and underrepresented voices, redefining leadership and communication in the digital age. A creator at the intersection of media, technology, and identity, Shawn writes the Human Algorithm newsletter, a trusted resource for industry professionals and change-makers exploring personal branding, the creator economy, and inclusive storytelling. Through sharp insights and lived experience, his work empowers individuals and brands to move beyond performance-driven content and build trust through honest, human-first narratives. Shawn brings over a decade of journalism experience, having served as Tech and Media Editor at Campaign Asia and a senior writer at The Drum. His reporting spanned digital transformation, ad tech, and agency innovation across the APAC region, strongly focusing on the future of media, work, and creativity. Throughout his career, Shawn has consistently amplified underrepresented communities, spotlighting stories around LGBTQIA+ rights, mental health, gender equity, and the evolving nature of work. In addition to his writing and editorial work, Shawn coaches creators and executives on building authentic personal brands, writing with vulnerability and precision, and leading with their stories. He also works behind the scenes as a ghostwriter and fractional creator, helping founders, creators, and companies craft high-impact content systems across platforms like LinkedIn, newsletters, and podcasts. Whether he is writing, coaching, or collaborating, Shawn’s mission is clear: To help thoughtful people use storytelling to build trust, visibility, and transformation in a world that often rewards noise over nuance.

Sunset+vine asia (digital)

Sub-Editor / Staff Photojournalist, VoxSports

Sep 2014May 2016 · 1 yr 8 mos · Singapore

  • My role as a Sub-Editor/Journalist/Photojournalist for the now-defunct VoxSports, was to be on the ground and leading a team to produce content like editorials, photos and videos for our clients. I am also the Picture Editor, where I lead the direction for our visual assets and give my input.
  • The events I usually cover requires me to function not only as a Journalist or a Photojournalist but as a Producer as well, because I have to look for story angles, whether in words, pictures or on video.
  • VoxSports was the Official Media Partner of The Football Association of Singapore, Pro-AM SBL, Singapore Floorball League and Singapore's only professional sports league, the Great Eastern Yeo's S.League.
  • On top of my main job scope, I edit the VoxSports website, as well as our clients' websites daily; publishing news, features and multimedia, as well generate web and social media content for VoxSports and our clients.
  • Even though 90% of my work are for my clients, I try to sniff out stories of lesser known sports and athletes that will inspire our general population.
  • As Sunset+Vine were the production partners for Singtel for their coverage of the SEA Games 2015 and Eleven Sports for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers / 2019 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, I got to work with and see the production and post-production aspects of Broadcast Television as well.
  • I have used that experience to guide me in producing and hosting the newly-launched VoxSports Weekly Highlights Show, which has allowed me to learn how to use a green screen in our newly-build in-house studio.
  • I have also had a taste in management and client servicing, where I am tasked to lead our day-to-day operations, as well as meeting potential and existing clients to discuss editorials and production contracts and directions.
  • The entire Singapore office was retrenched after the company decided to pull out of Asia.
