But while most were solving equations, I was founding a theatre group, writing scripts, directing plays, and making short films. I’ve always been drawn to two things: How people think. How systems work. That curiosity took me from stage lights to spreadsheets. I taught myself data analytics and moved into roles that blended creativity with structure. Over the last 15 years, I’ve worked across India’s education ecosystem with organizations like XSEED, Pearson, Educational Initiatives, and Jio Embibe. Those years took me into hundreds of schools, classrooms, principal offices, strategy meetings. I didn’t just see education. I saw its mechanics. Business development taught me incentives. Product taught me structure. Data taught me patterns. Theatre taught me people. Education taught me something else: Talent is abundant. Systems are not. Why TeacherFirst: After years of watching schools struggle to hire well, and teachers struggle to grow, I couldn’t ignore the gap. Teacher hiring in India is largely unstructured. So I decided to build what didn’t exist: A competency-based hiring network designed specifically for schools. Not a job portal. Not a consultancy. A system. We’re building it city by city. I write regularly about education, hiring, and system design, partly to test ideas, partly to refine them in public. And partly because I never quite managed to become a full-time film script writer.
