Richard Dansky — Co-Founder
I am a senior game narrative and writing specialist with a wide range of experience on games ranging from AAA blockbusters and massive franchises to VR, experimental indie projects, and TTRPGs and LARPs. With an extensive track record in games, I find myself regarded as an industry expert-level authority, and I do my best to share that knowledge in the interest of advancing the craft of game narrative. I also write extensively in fiction and other spaces, with A MEETING IN THE DEVIL'S HOUSE being my most recent full-length publication. Upcoming releases include the non-fiction book THE VIDEO GAME WRITER’S GUIDE TO SURVIVING AN INDUSTRY THAT HATES YOU, the graphic novel BRIDGEWATER, and the novel NIGHTMARE LOGIC. From January 2025 to July 2025, I was the Narrative Director for an unannounced project at Romero Games. This entailed direction-level tasks as well as guiding my team's professional development, worldbuilding and transmedia planning, and writing and editing. From the start of 2023 though the end of 2024, I served as the Franchise Narrative Director for Hunt: Showdown at Crytek. My responsibilities included world building and IP development, exploring transmedia opportunities, writing, editing, and developing and managing the narrative team for the acclaimed game Hunt: Showdown 1896. Previously, I spent 23 years at Ubisoft's Red Storm Entertainment studio. In my time there, I split my attention between narrative direction, game design, game writing (in my role as Central Clancy Writer for Ubisoft as a whole) and for several years managing the game design group at the studio. From 2010 to 2022 I functioned entirely in the Central Clancy Writer role, performing writing and IP-related tasks for the Tom Clancy's brand and other Ubi properties as needed. My work included everything from worldbuilding and IP development to transmedia elements to game narrative, marketing content, and scriptwriting. My credits include over 60 video game titles, as well as novels, short fiction, non-fiction writing, tabletop game design and writing, LARP design, and running writing workshops. I served on the advisory board for the Game Narrative Summit for close to two decades and formerly held an executive role in the IGDA's Game Writing SIG. In addition, I judge the Student Narrative Analysis Competition at GDC every year. Specialties: Writing, game design, narrative design, narrative direction, world building, documentation, corporate communication, professional development, and departmental management
