I was part of the Order-fulfilment team which caters to the various largest market if the Walmart, like US, UK, Mexico, Canada. My primary job was to maintain the order repository and cater use cases like order search, order dashboard, order cancellation and such kind of requests. Order volume was roughly around million per day. As we were scaling our product both horizontally and vertically (across the market and across the country), main challenge was to maintain the latency of the system when we grow to 5-10 million order per day.
Closely worked with senior architect(responsible for fulfilment team of 100 people) and designed a caching system to handle requests with less latency with sql support on the cache, along with the disaster recovery system which supports request when caching system is under maintenance or boot-up. This design reduced latency to 15-20 times as compare to earlier system, Availability of the system was also very close to 100%.
Also lead the team of 3 engineers (with the support of manager) to implement the design. Worked on the required POCs, roadmap for implementation, action plan for QA, Performance testing. System is in place from past 2 years and serving the largest markets of Walmart, 10000 stores globally in 4 major countries
