About

As Global Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability and a member of the Mars Petcare Executive Leadership team, Helen leads internal and external communication, public affairs, stakeholder engagement and advocacy, consumer care, an ambitious sustainability agenda and several strategic initiatives across Mars Petcare. Mars Petcare is a $30B global segment of Mars Inc. and is the world’s largest pet care company, comprising 3,000+ veterinary hospitals, animal diagnostics and pet tech businesses and ~50 pet food and treat brands, including Pedigree, Whiskas, Sheba, Cesar and Royal Canin. Helen is also the Dean of the Corporate Affairs College for Mars University, responsible for building functional capability across all Mars segments to ensure a leading Corporate Affairs function that is fit for the future. She is also a board member on the Banfield Foundation and the Mars Impact Fund. Although she's a self professed animal lover, and delighted to be surrounded by pets every day, Helen’s path to pet care wasn’t straightforward. She spent the first 25 years of her career in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, where she developed a passion for health and learned the value of purpose at both a business and personal level. Prior to Mars, Helen worked for Amgen, one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies, based first in their international HQ in Switzerland and then the global HQ in Southern California, leading Corporate Affairs for their global business and a team of professionals around the world. From 2001-2008, Helen directed a global Corporate Affairs team at the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company, AstraZeneca, first in Sweden and then the UK. Helen also led external communication for one of UK based pharmaceutical company, GlaxoSmithKline’s global therapeutic franchises, and spent three years prior to that at the global communication agency, Hill & Knowlton; first in London, and later in Australia, where she ran H&K’s Melbourne healthcare practice. A true global citizen, Helen has lived in seven countries across four continents and loves exploring new places with her family, which also includes, Sydney, the Australian labradoodle from California and Lola, the mini poodle from Belgium.
