• At UIDAI, we are in the process of building Aadhaar - an online ID platform for 1.3 billion Indian residents. This project includes capturing biometric and demographic information of all residents at hundreds of thousands of enrollment centers, de-duplicating the collected information using advanced searching and matching algorithms, and issuing a unique 12 digit random ID number to each resident.
• Residents can download their Aadhaar online, and also update their demographic and biometric data using one of the update channels.
• The UID or the Aadhaar platform offerings include online authentication, electronic KYC, and Aadhaar enabled payments. These platforms can be used for various applications in India; including but not limited to online identity and address establishment, paperless KYC (for new bank account, mobile connection), database cleanup to remove fake/duplicate records, G2P/B2P payments, last-mile transactions, presence and access control systems, and using Aadhaar as a common linkage, such as in medical records, credit bureau etc.
• In Government service delivery, the number has the potential to make welfare programs more effective, efficient and transparent by ensuring that the benefits reach only the intended beneficiaries, by making service providers more accountable.
• In the long run, the applications of the unique ID would depend on the needs of the government, public sector and private sector, and would go as far as imagination!

• Worked on adoption of Intelligent Transportation Systems in India, in close collaboration with distributors and end-customers (State Police Department, Municipal Corporation). The focus was to leverage technology products and customize them for Indian requirements to ensure traffic discipline on Indian roads and explore possibilities of end-to-end automation of Red Light and Speed Limit management - starting from violation capture to ticket processing to online payment of penalty amount.
