Tv allowance

Director

Dec 2002Jan 2004 · 1 yr 1 mo

  • Research at Stanford University Medical School and elsewhere proves that the "TV Allowance" device will increase grades and SAT scores, and decrease childhood obesity and aggression. There is a huge denial problem with TV today; the sad reality is that children watch an AVERAGE of six hours of crappy TV every day. Just think how much faster and more powerfully children will develop with less TV and more sports and reading etc. cf www.tvallowance.com

Intuit, inc.

VP of Technology

Mar 1999Mar 2002 · 3 yrs

  • This was fun. I joined Intuit after selling my small Internet startup (Boston Light Software) to them in 1999. We grew our Waltham team to 80 employees (including a couple other small acquisitions), and also remotely managed teams of engineers at Intuit in Mountain View. At Intuit, I lead the creation of the Intuit Innovation Lab and the Intuit Development Network, drove the strategy for an open SDK into QuickBooks, and for QuickBooks online services. I also taught recruiting at Intuit and was very involved with several VP/SVP hires. But most importantly, I learned a lot and made some very important, lifelong friends.

  • I started as a programmer helping to make Interleaf publishing system extensible for third party developers. I was at Interleaf for about six years, and ended up running engineering. (Actually, I ran marketing for my last year there, and probably scared the real marketing people to death when they heard a programmer was put in charge of marketing, and then I spent almost the entire year in the field with sales.)
