Anna J. McDougall is a technology executive, former software engineer, and technical careers expert who first began building websites in 1995. She is an award-winning engineering leader, including winning Software Engineering Leader of the Year for the 2024 WomenTech Global Awards, and being listed in the CTO Craft Top 100 List for 2025. Her first book, You Belong in Tech: How to Go From Zero Programming Knowledge to Hired, was an Amazon Career Guide Bestseller for July 2022. She has since delivered a TEDx talk for the Technical University of Berlin and created the McDougall Method, a practical framework for AI-friendly technical interview processes. In addition, she has developed three engineering careers frameworks for her workplaces, and is regularly consulted on topics of hiring strategies by some of the world’s largest brands. Her work experience includes everything from healthtech startups to enterprise technology, and she currently works as a Field CTO for IBM HashiCorp to bring enhanced compliance and speed to infrastructure and security lifecycle management for enterprise.
