About

I am building Alaan with the mission to simplify finance for businesses in the Middle East. We have grown rapidly since our launch and we now work with over 2000 mid-market and enterprise customers across various industries including G42, Sony, Careem, Lulu, Rove Hotels, and others. Alaan is backed by Y Combinator, and Peak XV (formerly Sequoia India) and has been ranked as the No. 1 spend management platform in EMEA by G2. My background has shaped me more than anything. I grew up in a lower-middle-class family in India. Neither of my parents had been to high school or college, and while growing up, even the simplest luxuries were beyond our reach. We didn’t have much money. This scarcity cultivated in me a deep sense of both insecurity and ambition. My formative years can be best summed up in the words of Michael Ovitz from his biography: “I always felt one step inferior to the people around me and one step superior. I wasn’t as creative or cultured as they were but I was a lot smarter and more hardworking than most of them. Insecurity and ambition make a powerful cocktail” The first life-changing event occurred in 2005 when I won a full scholarship to study engineering at the National University of Singapore. The drive to prove myself then sent me on a journey through prestigious institutions, including Barclays Investment Bank, McKinsey, and Dartmouth College (an Ivy League school). While I always felt like an outsider in these storied institutions, I learned from some of the best. That journey eventually led me to start Alaan. If Alaan's mission appeals to you and you share this hunger for success, please reach out to me.
