About

I’m passionate about making products that give people creative superpowers. This includes tools empowering non-programmers to create their own custom applications and non-designers to design beautiful, functional artifacts. --- Product leader with deep domain expertise in web platform technologies, browsers, low-code/no-code solutions, and open source innovation. I design tools and web technologies that empower people of all skill levels to more easily make web applications for their needs or others’. Over 18 years, I've bridged entrepreneurship, product, software engineering, web standards, devrel, scientific research on usability, higher education, and graphic design, granting me unparalleled insight and deep respect for the full spectrum of product development roles. My biggest strength lies in pinpointing core user needs and crafting high-impact MVPs with clear pathways for enhancement. Among other things, I have… - Designed dozens of new web technologies, leading to cross-browser implementations and broad developer adoption. - Performed design reviews for over 100 web technology proposals as a W3C TAG member, and proposed and/or co-authored over 50 design principles to inform the design of future web technologies. - Launched over 30 pioneering developer tools, many of which have been downloaded millions of times (1 billion for PrismJS!) and used all over the Web, attracted grassroots teams of maintainers which I led, or exited. - Forged new paradigms for no-code/low-code languages during my PhD at MIT, resulting in several peer-reviewed papers at top HCI venues. - Done product and usability consulting in projects related to my areas of expertise for established companies such as Wix and Google. - Spoken at over 100 international tech conferences across 31 countries and 5 continents - Authored a bestselling O'Reilly book (CSS Secrets), translated into 8 languages, sold over 20k US copies, and dubbed "The best CSS book" by the Chicago Tribune - Co-created and co-taught a new web technologies & UI design course at MIT, recently adopted as a permanent subject - Co-founded a Greek online communities startup, which reached user acquisition up to 0.75% of the country's population.
