Sowmya Raghunathan — CTO
I’ve spent the last 20 years working in the space where engineering, architecture, and business strategy intersect. Most of my career has centered around large, regulated, mission-critical platforms — modernizing them, clarifying them, and helping teams move them into a healthier, cloud-ready future. My role has always been about connecting groups that don’t naturally think the same way: engineers who think in code, architects who think in systems, and business leaders who think in outcomes. When those perspectives align, modernization becomes predictable, platforms get simpler, and engineering teams move with intention. Over the last few years, my focus has centered on a few themes: • Bringing AI into engineering in a responsible, practical way — using structured workflows and agents to understand codebases, map dependencies, and accelerate refactoring without compromising quality. • Modernizing legacy platforms while preserving the institutional logic and decision-making embedded within them. • Designing multi-tenant, cloud-native systems that scale cleanly and reduce long-term architectural drag. • Protecting intent — executive, architectural, and product — so it stays intact as it flows from strategy → architecture → code → operations. I lead multi-disciplinary engineering and architecture teams, set long-term platform direction, and guide organizations through modernization, cloud transition, DevOps maturity, and AI-enabled engineering evolution. I partner closely with leadership to define engineering strategy, shape cloud operating models, and influence investment decisions. Some of my thinking has evolved into BVDLC, a value-centered approach to engineering execution that ties technical decisions back to business outcomes. It’s a framework I’ve been developing as part of my professional learning and thought leadership. I also co-founded CharitySoft, an initiative focused on helping mission-driven organizations think more clearly about technology. It’s exploratory, community-oriented work —simply a way to share what I know in a positive direction. At my core, I’m a systems thinker and a builder. I care about architecture that lasts, teams that grow stronger over time, and engineering practices that scale with the ambition of the business.
