My Journey Through Insurance and the Future of Legacy Systems Since 1965, I've been immersed in the world of software. My focus for decades has been on the financial field and, more specifically, Insurance systems. It has given me an in-depth understanding of all aspects of Life Insurance and what I believe is unparalleled industry knowledge in the insurance sector. My path has taken me through various roles. I was a Partner at LOGIC LTD from 1980 to 1993, where I was responsible for teams dedicated mainly to Insurance systems. During that time, our teams implemented our own end-to-end AS/400 system in 8 Life Insurance Companies and a Policy Administration system on IBM mainframe in 3 Life Insurance Companies. Later, from 2003 till July 2006, I served as VP Insurance, Life and Pensions at Sapiens International Corporation. This was a truly global role. I was responsible for the vision of Sapiens INSIGHT for Life & Pensions, a powerful, framework-based solution covering life insurance, pension funds, and saving plans. As the owner of Lead Software Consultants 2000 LTD since 1993 till 2021 (when I left Israel), I've held consultancy positions with a wide array of insurance companies. I have worked with all major Israeli insurance providers, including Migdal Insurance, Clal Insurance, Harel Insurance, and Menora Mivtachim. My relationship with Migdal Insurance, for instance, spans over more than 30 years as a consultant. My career is marked by managing and participating in dozens of projects for these major insurance companies. I provided general IT consultancy for David Shield, an international medical insurance provider. These projects, among many others, demonstrate a proven track record of delivering complex IT solutions. My professional journey hasn't been confined to one country. I've had the opportunity to work in UK, Switzerland, France, Germany, Brazil, Belgium, Republica Dominicana, and of course, Israel. Currently based in Spain, I specialize in modernizing legacy insurance systems, particularly COBOL programs. As the founder of COBOL Toolkit, I developed a tool that automates documentation creation by scanning COBOL code, aiding enterprises in bridging legacy systems with modern applications. My work focuses on analysis, refactoring, optimization, and migration, ensuring seamless transitions and enhancing interoperability. The Toolkit accelerates ROI and innovation while reducing risks, empowering institutions to navigate the complexities of ageing systems in the evolving technological landscape.
