Ge energy

Original Equipment Manufacturer Embedded Power Engineering Intern

May 2012Aug 2012 · 3 mos · Plano, TX

  • Problem:
  • GE Power Electronics existing method of Board Mounted Power Device (BMP) cold wall testing is not well defined or controlled. Because of this, the tests lead to different results that are dependent on the test process that each global engineer uses.
  • Solution:
  • Simulate, design and build a cold wall test fixture that can be used for all BMP module cold wall testing in the United States and China. This test fixture design will be used globally within Power Electronics and will help lead to more consistent testing and more accurate results.
  • Duties:
  • Research basic application questions
  • Learn how to use Icepack (ANSYS) and run thermal simulations to find the most optimal design
  • Learn how to use Pro-Engineer and create the physical design
  • Build and test the apparatus and compare the test results with Icepack simulation results
  • From the results, refine the simulation and apparatus as needed
  • Develop a document for a “standard” cold wall test process
  • Designed, and simulated a cold wall test fixture in Icepack and Pro-Engineer that will be used for all Board Mounted Power (BMP) module coldwall testing.
  • Built the newly designed test fixture and created a standard test procedure for all GE power electronics employees. This test fixture leads to more efficient testing and more accurate results, benefiting the customers and the bottom line.
  • Directed and coordinated the GE Women’s Network events on site.
  • Organized, developed and implemented professional, volunteer, and social events for the interns while being the Intern Ambassador Chair, I also coordinated these events with human resources.
