About

Prashil is a Chemical Engineer with hands-on experience of working in the chemical industry. He obtained his B. Tech. from NIT Nagpur (VNIT) in 2020. During his undergraduate studies, he worked on industrial projects related to process and energy efficiency, separation technology, and industrial-waste treatment, which led to a publication in a high-impact journal. Post his graduation, he joined Godrej Industries Ltd. (Chemicals) in the New Products Development (NPD) department. Upon working for a year, he decided to explore his passion for research and joined IIT Bombay as a Ph.D. research scholar in the Department of Chemical Engineering. Currently, he is a Prime Minister's Research Fellow (PMRF, https://www.pmrf.in) at IIT Bombay, working with Prof. Ateeque Malani. His research on ‘Molecular simulation studies of Enhanced Oil Recovery’ aims to increase the efficiency of oil production in the Indian oil fields. This will help India to decrease one of the major foreign exchange outflows in terms of importing crude oil. He has published many articles in renowned international journals and has received several prestigious awards, including recognition from the American Chemical Society and the American Institute of Physics. BASF Germany has recognized the significance of the methodology he developed, awarding him the Indo-German Science and Technology (IGST, https://www.igstc.org) Fellowship to explore its applications in addressing industrial problems. In his free time, he enjoys to guide the young generation, specifically socially and economically disadvantaged students, toward a bright career. He plays the tabla and was awarded the ‘Best Tablaist of IIT Bombay’ in 2024. He also loves to travel and has been to several countries, such as the USA, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Italy, Netherlands, Denmark, Luxembourg, and Poland, during his work in Germany. • Project: Design of sustainable organic coatings for metal protection using molecular simulations
  • Advisor: Dr. Ratan K. Mishra (Senior Scientist)
  • Key Outcomes:
  • 1) Developed INTERFACE force field (IFF) models of iron oxide polymorphs and pH-resolved surfaces
  • 2) Developed a workflow to compute various properties of inorganic compounds using
  • molecular dynamics simulations
  • 3) Developed a machine learning-based workflow to optimize the IFF parameters of model
  • compounds
  • 4) Developed a GROMACS-based workflow to compute the adsorption free energy of
  • adsorbate on an adsorbent
  • This research helps to screen coating materials for metal protection. To the best of our knowledge, this is a pioneering, state-of-the-art effort in India, contributing to both personal expertise and national capability development.
