When I graduated from college, I wanted to change the world. However, I was unsure of the "How", "What", and "Why". Also, none of my classmates would easily believe me when they meet me as a PM now and rightfully so. For a long time, product management was outside of my aspirations. Then, how did I become a PM at Confluent? I see myself as a bundle of contradictions, which also extends to my views on my career. I did not follow a conventional focused career path. Impact, learning and, primarily, curiosity influenced my career choices. I developed a unique perspective by working across different environments, Enterprise versus Consumer, Big Tech versus Startups, Engineering Versus Product, and Entrepreneurship versus Employee experiences. For example, while I upskilled myself for Enterprise tech, I also did a Behavioural Economics-based design course(an extreme contrast). I traded depth for breadth, hoping it would amortise over a long career. In the process, I learnt about my relationship with work, aspirations, and domain interests and finally chose to be an Enterprise Product Manager at Confluent.
