• I lead Product & Engineering, facilitating product and commercial viability workshops and running an internal software development team for these business services (several SaaS products including a site assessment mapping tool for NDIS/SDA properties).

• MedAdvisor is an ASX listed company that provides medication management software for the majority of pharmacies in Australia, with a growing presence in the UK and US.
• I was hired to mature Engineering practices in Data and Infrastructure, and was promoted to also look after Security 6 months after I joined. This is a regulation-heavy environment given we process PHI (protected health information) globally.
• The Infra & Security team provide architectural/expert guidance for all of our Engineering teams, building and implementing standards/best practices, capacity planning, security audits, and leading Cloud uplift/migration projects. The Data Insights team is responsible for internal and external reporting systems (including Data Engineering, BI and in-house-built Python-based web based analytics), including executing our Health Programs reporting where data analytics is used to improve patient health outcomes.

• StocksDigital writes and promotes compelling stories about ASX stocks to investor audiences, using an in-house tech platform.
• I built the team, tech platform workflow to move manual processes into a systemised integrated online platform - which is now called Amplicat, which forms the core of StocksDigital's analytics, reporting, operations and customer engagement.
• Responsibilities included forming a new technical cadence, leading the technical and product strategy for our online products - including an in-house CMS with custom editorial/newsroom/publishing workflow tools and an integrated schedule. The tech stack used is predominantly Django & React on AWS ECS (Docker) with a complete CI/CD lifecycle.
• Beyond technical work, I was heavily involved at the business and project management layer: running workshops, scrum master, business analysis, defining business workflow improvements and driving/executing change.

• Senior Django developer role working on "Django at scale" - performant engineering for a internally developed CMS/publishing system supporting over 30 writers & sees over 10m unique visitors per month. Stack includes Django, PostgreSQL, Redis, django-rest-framework, React (including server-side rendering), various caching mechanisms. Full-stack role, including significant devops work (AWS) with some experimentation on GCE.
• Developed Django "multi-site" capability for rebrand, Paid Subscriptions support and payment backend to enable new revenue sources, refactored much code to fix performance issues or add new features, contributed fixes or new features to many upstream FOSS libraries, moved local development stack to Docker.

• Squareweave is a digital agency developing web applications for clients predominantly in the "social good" sector (non-profits, startups, etc).
• Senior Developer / Devops role, specializing in back-end; primarily working in Django (Python), but including some Laravel (PHP) and Ruby on Rails projects.
• Other hats included Project Lead / Project Manager duties, helped business improve technical+hiring process and policies, and successfully raised business case for diversifying revenue (high-end hosting product for highly available applications, strategically widening technical stack organisation offered to clients).
• Worked in small team developing hosting stack using Docker/Kubernetes (Openshift v3) on AWS.

• Caramel is a “Virtual IT Department for hire”, providing a complete suite of managed IT services to businesses which would otherwise have an internal IT team. I joined as CTO when Caramel acquired my previous company (uAnywhere), and I helped build a new "human-centric" IT services model.
• I was scrum master for an Agile development team building new ticketing software & a customer dashboard, and was responsible for the technical function of the IT services side of the business, which included ongoing mentoring of our technical engineers, and implementing new business processes.
• I lead the network design for a number of projects; a high availability hosting stack in an Adelaide datacentre to enable our Cloud strategy (VMWare, Juniper, Vyatta, Windows Server, Linux, chef, Rackspace), and a regional wireless ISP servicing businesses in regional areas that couldn't get fibre.

• Next Day Video produces online video for non-profit, open-source and education conferences; the magic is our (open sourced) Python-based encoding/workflow automation. I vary between running smaller events on my own to acting as operations director for larger teams at bigger conferences. We also build video automation/processing backends for a number of companies (custom software development).

• uAnywhere was the IT systems specialist you called when you wanted something difficult fixed, fast. We were a boutique highly skilled (and open source centric) IT consultancy specialising in augmenting existing technical teams and providing general IT services (including software development, implementing business workflow into software, automation, etc).
• I was the sole owner/Director, and wore many different hats as the company grew.
• We did everything from software development (PHP and Python), Linux and Windows sysadmin/automation, devops consulting, Asterisk / VoIP, datacentre consulting/builds, penetration testing & security consulting.
• I also developed a software & a unique workflow for our IT systems and service delivery. uAnywhere was bought out by Caramel in January 2013, after acting for a number of months on their management team.

• Sirion was a small (~2500 clients) Adelaide-based ISP (dialup, ADSL and wireless).
• I joined the company early on in its inception, when the company was trying to resell ADSL and dialup from Comindico - very low margin.
• I had been playing with 802.11b wireless for a few years prior, including setting up a few multi-node networks in small regional towns, and saw using class licensed spectrum as a low investment high margin way of getting Internet and a client base into areas that were in ADSL blackspots.
• I built and spearheaded the technical strategy of the Sirion network; mail/web servers, our colocation facility, our core network, our custom Linux/HostAP-based wireless access points, x86 based routers+shaping using OpenBSD (pf/altq) and clients.
• We also built some interesting projects for clients, including prototyping an early IPTV streaming set-top-box system for a hotel and an online video streaming rental system, outdoor wireless deployments for aged care villages, etc.

• Bull Media was an IT services company that focused on solutions for the media sector in Adelaide.
• I joined the company as their first software developer (PHP) part-time early 2003 to provide an income while I started my own venture, but business grew and I became full-time.
• The company wished to develop its own Outlook replacement with enhanced calendar and additional modules for clients from scratch; I introduced the strategy of building on top of an existing (and appropriately licensed) open source groupware application (more.groupware) to get the product to market quicker and to develop third party commercial modules for it.
• This worked well; outside of rapidly expanding the installation base in Adelaide we gained consulting and development work from overseas businesses who wanted commercial support for the open source product, as our product used (and contributed back upstream to) the same core.
• I was the first (lead) programmer hired, and later moved into a Project Manager role as the company expanded.

• Much of this was a business calling me in to design software to take an existing business process they had (often using Excel spreadsheets) into something web-based with a proper workflow.
• Some of these projects included;
• Asset/location tracking for shipping containers (PHP),
• Internet cafe software which had a central web interface to printout access tickets, and a custom server/client that hooked into samba domain logins and a MySQL database to restrict access (ruby, PHP, FreeBSD)
• Developed open source replacement for popular Cobalt web appliance - this was deployed internally at commercial businesses, IP acquired by commercial entity in 2005, unfortunately did not remain open-source (perl, PHP, Debian)

• 2XStreams provided high resolution video streaming and encoding services in the very early days of Internet video.
• I joined the company as Lead Engineer, and we were contracted to provide video streaming services for a number of high-profile clients, including Southern Cross Cable (on behalf of a production company who came up with the concept of a 50's styled Internet Cafe stand) at Cebit and Comdex. The video streaming was used to demonstrate the speed of their new multi-gigabit international cable, which was an extremely successful way to do so.
• We used Quicktime/Sorenson streaming technologies, with a modified version of Apple's Darwin Streaming Server (open source) which I altered to allow a larger cache (and some other changes) which enabled us to stream high bitrate videos without the usual dropouts associated with video streaming back then.

• Computer Addictions was a small IT business, which was a part-time job while in study. Roles included general PC repairs, but included some new product/service development:
• Created an easy to use web-based (perl) Linux-based ipchains router to allow Internet sharing of a single dialup connection (and later ADSL) from an inexpensive/second hand x86 box - this was before consumer routers were even a thing. This was called NetBox. Early versions were FreeBSD (ipfw, natd).
• Built a few 802.11b networks for clients wanting connectivity between offices using HostAP and home-made omnidirectional antennae; these outperformed (both speed and reliability) most affordable commercial solutions available at the time
• Built a custom Debian-based Linux distribution for CNC machinery control software for an online community, as the existing Redhat-based distribution was buggy and old
