Divyam Jain — Associate Consultant
I am an Assistant Professor of Accounting and Finance at the Indian Institute of Management Ranchi. Before joining IIM Ranchi, I served as an Assistant Professor at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur, where I taught Financial Accounting, Corporate Finance, and Management Accounting, along with contributing to institutional responsibilities. I hold a Ph.D. in Accounting and Finance from the Indian Institute of Management Kashipur. My research lies at the intersection of ESG, sustainability disclosures, greenwashing, stakeholder value, corporate governance, and capital market behavior. I examine how firms strategically use ESG disclosures in response to stakeholder pressure, regulatory scrutiny, and legitimacy concerns, often revealing a gap between what companies disclose and what they actually do. My work is grounded in accounting and finance theory and draws on institutional theory, stakeholder theory, and information economics. Empirically, I use large-scale panel data and advanced econometric techniques to study environmental footprints, disclosure credibility, financial distress, investor reactions, and stakeholder-oriented corporate outcomes, with a particular focus on emerging and Asian markets. My research has been presented at several academic conferences and published in peer-reviewed outlets, including work on asymmetric investor reactions to sustainability index inclusion and exclusion. Alongside research, I am committed to teaching and mentoring. In the classroom, I emphasize analytical rigor, conceptual clarity, and critical evaluation of corporate narratives, particularly around sustainability claims, financial reporting, governance, and value creation. My goal is to help students look beyond compliance and metrics and understand the incentives, trade-offs, and consequences behind corporate decisions. Through research, teaching, collaborations, and policy-relevant engagement, I aim to contribute to conversations on disclosure quality, accountability, sustainable finance, and long-term value creation. My broader academic mission is to produce credible, high-impact research that advances our understanding of sustainability, governance, and stakeholder value in emerging markets.
