• I was a member of eRDS (Employee Reference Data Store) core team. eRDS is Deutsche Bank’s internal data lake powered by Apache Spark clusters, message queues, Oracle database and microservices deployed on Fabric, an internal Kubernetes platform.
• Brief highlights about my work:
• Implemented a Spark cluster on Kubernetes, using Spark SQL + JDBC to query our central data lake, enabling consumers to request data for over 100,000 current and former employees using batch REST APIs
• Prototyped different monitoring frameworks, identifying and selecting the best fit with our API architecture. Designed and deployed an alerting and monitoring system using Grafana and Prometheus to track and monitor API behaviour, response times and failures
• Improved batch API response times for a certain set of requests by 16x (80s to 5s) by creating a cache microservice and rerouting requests from our API gateway to this fast service
• Led a group of 4 colleagues to plan, design and deliver technical training sessions to a batch of 30 new graduate recruits as part of Deutsche Bank’s graduate orientation program
