• As the technical writing industry advances to help customers with specific information to help them succeed and overcome issues, it becomes critical for you as a writer to address these issues in the most efficient manner. I believe, as a move in this direction, it is important to deliver content in an easily consumable manner. Videos are an ideal way to deliver specific, complex information in the most understandable manner. We know videos have greater memory retention compared to text and audio. Videos as a content delivery mechanism is a clearer, immersive, informative, and engaging content consumer experience. As my endeavor in this direction, I have created a set of 6 videos which are packaged as a playlist to understand and configure the Identity policies and realms in Cisco Firepower Management Center.
• Apart from achieving the general work expectations of a Technical Writer at Cisco, I have created videos and walkthroughs. Walkthroughs are help provided as tooltips or pop-ups that take you through achieving a task one step at a time by prompting you to take actions at selected UI elements. Walkthroughs are a great way to help a customer navigate across the UI to complete a task while giving out important information where necessary. The important information could be a note, a pre-requisite, or a warning. A user gets a gist of the number of steps that are needed to complete the task and the text is light and specific. Walkthroughs prove to be a crucial differentiator in the user experience when the steps require the user to navigate across the UI. I have uploaded a sample of my work on walkthroughs here.
