Scale computing

Field CTO

Aug 2009Jan 2025 · 15 yrs 5 mos · Global · Remote

  • I designed, created the proof of concept, and then prototyped an industry changing virtualization solution that saved the company and created a new category of computing in the process. I joined virtualization and compute into Scale's highly available clustered storage solution, which was developed into Scale's SC//Platform (HC3) & the industry term "Hyperconverged Infrastructure" was coined by the Taneja Group to describe it.
  • I helped build the global presence of the Scale Computing Platform up from zero to a nine figure exit, including building the relationships with most of Scale's largest customers.
  • I brought Scale into the channel via ProMark and turned Scale into a 100% channel company
  • I Conceptualized the Scale Edge Computing platform working with the Intel NUC team and created the Intel Enterprise Edge Compute edition powered by Scale Computing sold by Intel alongside the Scale HE1xx edge line.
  • I have been the primary presenter for hundreds of interviews and press presentations getting the Scale message out to the industry (both webinar-based and in-person)
  • I created the messaging for HC3 around IO path and solution efficiency based on in-kernel vs VSA
  • Created and trained both Jr and Sr level sales team members on how to position and pitch Scale versus Nutanix, Simplivity, Dell, HP, NetApp, EMC, VMWare, Xen, Hyper-V
  • I designed and prototyped new platforms for the product lineup including the R series, 10gig, flash based
  • Created the relationship with Google that enabled both Cloud Unity and Fleet Manager
  • I brought CDW to work with Scale.
  • I created the Scale Alliances team and built an ecosystem around Scale's platform including backup, VDI, power management and built relationships with Intel, AMD, Google, Acronis, Leostream, Parallels, Storware, Veeam, Wasabi
  • I designed the architecture and partnerships to create Scale's VDI/EUC offerings

Rhinomax solutions

CTO

Jan 2000Jan 2001 · 1 yr · Greater Denver Area

  • This was a start-up venture in which I designed & implemented the first hyperconverged storage and compute platform designed around the “one box” concept combining a hypervisor, online primary, near-line secondary, and offline tape storage with total automation being the main focus of the product (including remote storage and backup management). The product worked well, and made it through beta into first customer ship. Product was 10 years ahead of it's time.
