Hi, I am Karan, a consumer marketer and ex eCommerce business leader who is following his passion for building a better system for business education in India. I worked at Hindustan Unilever Limited for 14 years, a company I joined as a Summer Intern in 2007. I loved my time there and the joke is that I had to start my own company to work at another one. In my early years at HUL, I worked in the Sales technology team as a Product Manager (even before it was called Product Management). I helped build technology and algorithms for distribution planning in India. I also managed the brand Surf excel and its P&L in India. My team and I helped unlock a phase of growth that took the brand to market leadership and becoming HUL's first billion dollar brand. In my last stint at HUL, I led the eCommerce business and P&L from its infant years as the General Manager. It is now India's largest eCommerce beauty business (brand side) with a very strong technology and capability backbone. I am a data enthusiast and have always tried to find newer and better ways of doing things through data. I helped build Jarvis, a patented decision making tool and Smartpick, a digital sampling platform during my years at HUL. Through my 30s, I realised that what gave me happiness was not business results but being a small part of other people's successful career journeys. I started teaching Marketing and eCommerce at business schools across India and realised that the curriculum and pedagogy of the best colleges was also outdated. The feedback from students and professors gave me conviction around the problem. I started Digiaccel Learning with a bunch of colleagues to build a system for business education and upskilling for professionals. We are in the early years of our journey to becoming an alternate "university" for in-demand digital skills like digital marketing, brand building and eCommerce. Our mission is to enable a million professionals in India to accelerate their careers through our deep functional learning programs. At Digiaccel Learning, our thesis is that success at work requires you to be a deep expert in functional skills. This vertical upskilling is not solved for by the traditional education system and degrees like the MBA. We are building this new-age education system for digital skills to accelerate professional careers, hence Digiaccel. We also help companies upskill their people.
