About

I build high-trust payments foundations that move money faster and safer. Over 15 years I’ve blended deep domain expertise—CNP, 3-DS, fraud, PCI—with hands-on cloud engineering to turn bold product ideas into scalable, compliant reality. Today I’m Founder & CTO of FloPay, delivering a serverless orchestration layer that unifies gateway routing, Account Updater, tokenization, and fraud defenses for SaaS merchants. Previously, as Head of Technology at TokenEx, I led the modernization of a PCI-level tokenization platform, migrating from lift-and-shift VMs to Azure Container Apps and Functions, hardening security, and rolling out a microservices framework that slashed release friction. Earlier, as CTO of Nexio, I architected an event-driven payments stack of ~40 AWS Lambda microservices and integrated dozens of processors (First Data, Stripe, TSYS, 3DS, and more) to support global commerce at scale. My leadership philosophy is simple: hire curious people, stay in the code, and remove friction so teams can ship. That approach has helped me mentor engineers and advise boards on security audits, cost–value trade-offs, and cloud strategy. When I’m not writing code or whiteboarding architecture, you’ll find me offshore sailing or tackling an Executive MBA at BYU, pursuits that sharpen strategic thinking and resilience. Let’s connect if you’re transforming payments, simplifying cloud architecture, or just want to swap stories about shipping, scaling, and sailing.

  • I'm a player-coach. While leading the team I always remained in the code.
  • Created the Nexio payments management, and Nexio back office web applications from the ground up using React, Redux, SASS, and AWS Amplify.
  • Managed and configured AWS Cognito, S3, Route 53, and CloudFront for hosting front-end web applications.
  • Created Nexio Payments API, delivering around 40 event-driven microservices using AWS Lambda, DyanmoDB, RDS, SQS, and Cognito.
  • Integrated dozens of payment platforms including various XML, JSON, flat file, and redirect APIs. Integrated First Data Reporting, Tsys, USAePay, NMI, Authorize.net, Kount, PayU, Stripe, 3DS, Paynet, and more.
  • Release both private and public NPM packages in order to allow versioned code sharing across various front-end, back-end, and microservices. These included SASS (CSS), UI components, database tools, API rest tooling, and more.
  • Moved legacy web application into AWS Fargate to increase performance and stability.
  • Worked frequently on penetration testing, security audits, and PCI level one audits.
  • Leveraged Bitbucket Pipelines and Docker to create a 4-stage CICD that allowed for up to 5 releases each day of production code including, unit tests, integration tests, API tests, database updates, and security audits.
  • Implemented a multi-step ETL back end that processed millions of lines of flat file data transforming it into normalized, deduped, and indexed relational data using S3, SQS, RDS, and Lambda.
  • Created a standardized reporting API using AWS Lambda, Sequalize, RDS, and Cognito.

Jan 2011Apr 2014 · 3 yrs 3 mos

  • After years of experience supporting, testing, training, and consulting on the best practices of implementing the Fishbowl ERP platform I became the defacto domain, expert, in Inventory systems. Moving from a support and training role I moved into BI development and then to product management. I worked directly with software development teams to curate ideas, research product markets and competition, and lead product discovery. I developed custom BI tools and analytic tools that queried hundreds of on-premise databases and convert that data into consumable summary data. I was able to reveal important insight into our customer product usage, LTV, CAC, and Total Addressable Market. I focused on practical product management tactics like MVP release and prototyping. Ultimately I initiated the companies transition from on-premise to SAAS. My passion for problem solving lead me to engage directly with the code, and I left the world of product in order to focus on software development, in an attempt to master both sides of the technology equation.
