• My journey from First Database Engineer(joined after founding team DBA) to leading Database Operations team @ LinkedIn
• During my time at LinkedIn our member base grew from 4+ to 360+ million. Database fleet grew from single monolithic Oracle database to farm of distributed databases using multiple technologies.
• I, together with some very smart engineers were responsible for Building, Scaling and Supporting some of the largest and busiest databases on the web; profile, messaging/email, network updates, endorsements, invitations, connections, recruiter, advertisement, money etc to name few. It was great experience to contribute to every single persistent data store in early growth years of Linkedin.
• We went thru lot of transformation in data stores. We moved many of our databases from RDBMS to NoSQL, Oracle to MySQL etc. Over time we moved towards multipurpose/hybrid DB environment.(Oracle, MySQL, Espresso, Voldemort, RDBMS, NoSQL and more) It was great experience to learn, adapt and apply different data solutions to emerging problems.
• In later years, I was leading incredibly talented Database Engineering and Operations team to facilitate Engineering and Product efforts.
