Pawan Sinha — Co-Founder
The brain, fundamentally, is a learning device. My research focuses on understanding the principles by which the brain learns to make sense of its complex environment. This quest involves experimental studies with typically developing children, as well as those who have had unusual developmental trajectories, as in cases of autism or congenital blindness. We complement our experimental work with computational modeling to test our hypotheses about how development progresses in biological systems. On the applied side, a gratifying aspect of our work is the opportunity it offers us to positively impact young lives. Helping blind children gain sight (www.ProjectPrakash.org) has advanced our basic understanding of brain development. Additionally, we are attempting to translate insights about learning and development into the arena of education. As part of a venture named Edifii, we are developing systems that facilitate learning through engagement, and help students chart a path through high school towards colleges and careers.
