• I worked on the project 'Analyzing bus bunching on BMTC and KSRTC's routes using AVL data'.
• It involves the development of Python and JS tools to allow working with huge data and give in hand a powerful visualization that helps to draw conclusions and study the trends in data.
• All the work is done on the official dataset from agencies involved. My work includes:
• Developing a tool to detect bus bunching
• Tools to visualize bus trajectories
• Working with the large stream of historic GPS data
• Studying corrective measures and algorithms
• Constructing routes out of big data files mapping them with unique IDs across multiple files
• Developing a tool which plot maps as per user input of the desired routes
• The project was a part of the formal internship program by CiSTUP, IISc Bangalore in summer 2018.

• Have you ever been waiting for a late bus, and all of a sudden two or three buses arrive at the same time? That's called bus bunching. And this is what I am working on to analyse and solve.
• Currently I am working on Bus Bunching in Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation(BMTC) which has a daily ridership of 4,910,000 (as of November 27, 2017) with a fleet of over 6 K buses. Am working on analyzing the actual problem with help of RT location sent by GPS fitted on each bus in fleet. This sort of analysis is proving to be very effective to study the problem which can then be worked upon. Exact geographical location where this occurs, the time of a particular day when it happens and the specific buses (with their unique RTO no. as identification) on a particular routes which face it, all can be studied with the space-time graphs plotted.
• My work includes:
• studying the current operation methodologies of BMTC
• working on metrics to quantify the occurrence and extent of bus bunching
• working on python scripts and JavaScript code over nodeJS framework
• working on the data received from server(data analysis)
• plotting the graphs using appropriate tools
• inferring the problems
• devising the methods which can be practically applied for BMTC buses
• This is a project which may affect the life of 50 lac bangaloreans daily and would result in savings of several millions to agency like BMTC and most importantly reducing the carbon footprint significantly.
