Summer Intern

  • I did a project on Temperature Control of Blending Tanks, which was planned to be made operational in due course. I used temperature sensors at the tanks and interfaced them with a central controller (general-purpose microcontroller) using cables, which can also be replaced by wireless technology using Bluetooth/wifi (possibility explored) and can be controlled from the central control room for setting the proper temperature for blending different lubes. I was exposed to the control of the blending tanks in the lube blending plant for the manufacturing of lubricants. Exposed to the control systems, robotic arm control, pneumatic controls for the drum filling, labelling and automated plant operations as a whole.

  • Completed training in Signal and Telecom Gears in Indian Railways. Covered the telephone exchange, Route relay interlocking, control management part of the Indian Railways. Exposed to the working of signals, level crossings, points in the railway tracks which are controlled by Route Relay interlocking systems which are designed to be fail safe with multiple level of safety. The current technology is solid state interlocking systems, which were also demonstrated to us. DC voltage is used at the tracks to detect short between the parallel rails in presence of train to determine where the train is present. Whereas the new technology is the use of an axle counter to count the number of axles in a passing train, which was also explored during the course of the training.
