Shivam Ayengia is not just a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) advocate—he is a storyteller, a bridge-builder, and a believer in the power of belonging. Currently a Doctoral Fellow at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta in the Organizational Behaviour Group, his research centers around disability inclusion, a topic deeply personal and profoundly important to him. Born with cerebral palsy (65% disability), Shivam’s life has been a journey of navigating barriers, breaking stereotypes, and turning adversity into purpose. His lived experience has shaped not only his perspective—but his passion to create spaces where no one is left out, unheard, or unseen. With a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from Tezpur University and an MBA in Human Resource Development from the Delhi School of Economics, Shivam brings both heart and intellect to the DEI space. His academic foundation helps him question systems, while his empathy helps him rebuild them. He has contributed to DEI operations across 14 countries in the APAC region, helping shape strategies that don’t just check boxes, but touch lives. Whether it’s amplifying unheard voices, crafting inclusive policies, or nurturing brave spaces—his goal is simple but powerful: to make people feel they matter. He also founded Sanghra, the Diversity and Inclusion Cell at Delhi School of Economics, laying the groundwork for future DEI champions. Today, Shivam is also a respected thought leader, sharing heartfelt reflections and bold ideas through LinkedIn articles, public talks, and panel discussions. What drives him isn’t just research or recognition—it’s the hope of a world where disability isn’t seen as a deficit, but a dimension of diversity.
