Raphael (Ray) Freiwirth is founder and CEO of The Commons XR ("TCXR"), creating immersive 3D experiences and using AI to provide individualized behavioral analytics for health and educational environments. The goal is to identify those kids that need help earlier, in a safe and open environment. Ray is also deeply involved with the San Diego startup community. He is or has been a mentor (Miramar REC, SDSU Lavin Center, SCORE San Diego, USC MEPC cohort, and other colleges), a Startup San Diego cheerleader and a member of San Diego NuFund Venture Group since 2019, leading due diligence with seed deals. Ray brings a wealth of knowledge of the startup community, understanding startup life, processes and environments needed from ideation to seed stage. He is an expert in the implementation of business strategy based on IP, from his 12yr experience as in-house patent counsel for Qualcomm. He has a very diverse background in software engineering rising from computer engineer to directing worldwide rollout of infrastructure at Citicorp & Time-Warner, where he later transitioned to acting CISO (while at law school). He also has deep knowledge in standards, was instrumental in evolving integration for email platforms (X.400 ANSI) as well as worked on early stages of directory (X.500 ANSI), worked on and edited IETF documentation for Mail and Directory Management (MADMAN, used in Network Management Area (RFCs 1565, 1566, and 1567)) While a lawyer, he was active with AIPLA’s Emerging Tech (committee vice-chair) and the Artificial Intelligence (sub-committee co-chair).
