About

Hello, I'm Shannon! I hold a Bachelor of Science in Marketing, a Bachelor of Arts in Sustainability Studies, and a Master of Science in Marketing. My commitment to sustainability deepened during my time at the University of Florida, where I not only continued my personal journey but also empowered others to take action. As part of a student-run nonprofit, we ideated and created the #UNLITTER Bottle Cap mural, a 6-by-8-foot piece now proudly displayed in the lobby of our college town’s City Hall. If you find yourself in Gainesville, be sure to stop by and check it out! I have also engaged with nearly 3,000 individuals across the United States through various cleanup initiatives, a commitment that began with the first event I hosted in high school. Currently, I work at HP, where I not only serve in a full-time role but also volunteer as an intern coordinator. In this capacity, I plan events and mentor over 150 interns in our summer program, helping them grow and thrive within the company. I’m deeply passionate about sustainability, marketing, sales, and education, and I’m always eager to collaborate with like-minded individuals and organizations. If you share my commitment to making the world a more sustainable place, I’d love to connect and explore opportunities for collaboration and positive change - feel free to send me a message! Go Gators!

  • The nonprofit #UNLITTER began at the University of Florida, which began as a way to encourage students to take more trash than they arrived with (ie. hiking or at the beach). #UNLITTER has sparked into a global movement that encourages an environmentally friendly mindset through education and various events. Post COVID we have roughly 500 members in our Gainesville chapter of #UNLITTER and regularly see about 150-200 students at our cleanups.
  • Due to COVID, we were not able to meet in person, so we created the #UNLITTER Seminar Series, which features biweekly speakers who cover various environmental topics such as "Plastic waste during the COVID era" and "How to start a Zero/Low Waste Lifestyle." We have featured speakers such as Lauren Poe (Mayor of Gainesville), various UF professors, as well as UF students.
  • We launched the #UNLITTER marketplace, an initiative to promote ethical and sustainable brands while coordinating various events on campus such as our #UNLITTERyourart event.
  • We were able to lead our first elementary education event wherein we lead activities and discussed various parts of Earth Day (more than just the normal reuse, reduce, recycle) to over 120 students in the first and third grade.
  • #UNLITTER Bottle Cap mural, a project that took over 3 years. We collected 75,000 bottle caps from all over the city of Gainesville and created a 8' by 4' mural of the Gainesville Paynes Prairie Sunset. The mural was accepted into Gainesville's City Hall by the mayor and the city commissioners. We also hosted the first #UNLITTER Thrift Gala, an even that encouraged everyone to wear their best thrifted find in order to promote sustainability and highlight the issues with the fast fashion industry. Through these events, we fundraised thousands of dollars and hosted almost 200 attendees per event.

  • Successfully fundraised over $55,000 to put on the 2021-2023 TEDxUF Conferences. Interviewed applicants and formed a team of 12 students (most of which with no prior sales/fundraising experience).
  • There was no prior “lesson plans” as to how to coach students, and with COVID affecting businesses in the area I knew our team had to adapt. After teaching team members the sales process, how to close, the benefits/how to use a CRM, as well as confidence boosting activities, our team approached more than 250 businesses around Gainesville, Florida for just the 2022 conference alone to obtain sponsors for the conference. I emphasized the importance of sales tactics in any career - being able to “sell/market” themselves as they enter the job market.
