About

A coach who has helped more than 10000 executives. A mother who has raised two brilliant daughters, who respect themselves and respect others. Well, I was also a banker. And here is my story. In June 2000, and my life was in a mess. Every morning that I woke up I didn’t want to go to the office. And every evening, I wasn’t eager to come back home either. Going to the office was a nightmare, coming home was no solace. My marriage was on the verge of collapse. My children were frightened of me. I used to fall frequently ill. I was just 35, but a lot of my hair had gone grey. My lipid profile was bad and I had cholesterol bags on my eyelids. This was so, although I had one of the best jobs in the country. My relatives and friends envied me. I was recognised as a bright and brilliant manager in my company. My seniors hailed me as someone who will rise high. But thankfully, something changed. I received a promotion and I was sent to a two-week leadership program. One week of which was a Human Process Lab, an intense self awareness and growth lab. When I came back, I felt that things were changing in my life. At work, I started asking for those assignments which aligned with my own strengths and values. My husband and I rebuilt our relationship. I became more open and friendly with my children. I regained my health, my lipid profile improved and I even lost the cholesterol bags which doctors had earlier told me could only be removed by surgery. It was in June 2000 that I decided to be an executive coach and do this kind of work which had changed my life. I have now been a coach for 15 years, helping other executives live happy, healthy and balanced lives. I have realised the pain and the turmoil that executives go through. Often they are stuck in a job that they do not enjoy. Often they are so stressed that the 7 areas of their life are not in balance. Important things like health and relationships suffer. They work with dedication, but feel that their work is not recognized. They don’t find happiness. Even their finances are not well taken care of. They are so engrossed that they have not planned for their financial freedom. I believe that everyone truly wants to be happy. They remain unhappy because they are following someone else’s expectations and goals. My job is to help executives find happiness and balance in their lives by knowing their true purpose.   • COVID impacted trainings big way. Now I had fewer leadership responsibilities and fewer programmes to design and deliver. However, I could use this time to do research and writing work. I compiled and edited a compendium of case studies relevant to m organization. I published a paper in Sage journal on the merger related research I had done. I could also complete my doctorate and submit my thesis. This coincided with the final chapter in my career with SBI too. I am truly thankful to SBI for the opportunities it provided me to do what I really wanted to do. And even in that, the opportunities to learn and grow. It was the magnanimity and broad vision of this Bank that while working in SBI, I designed and delivered programmes not only for SBI but for 25 company's senior and mid level executives. What a learning experience and what fulfilment it has been!

  • December to Mid- March 2020 was filled with programmes. We were running 4-5 workshops simultaneously. I was inaugurating, delivering valediction addresses, taking sessions. Lie could not have been busier or more exciting. Then I cancelled one programme for retiring top executives because the threat of COVID was approaching. And then it happened. Managing the fear of people was more important. It was a residential campus so providing good enough security, safety, treatment options all was part of my job. For training programmes we were prepared and had practised on every single platform, so we started our online programmes from 25th March.
  • And then in May 2020 I saw parts of our building flying away! The cyclone Amphan had struck with a vengeance. The entire night and next day went in disaster recovery!
  • I am happy that during my short period of heading SBIL, all of my team members and their families remained safe and secure. I had a very busy quite challenging and equally satisfying tenure.

  • In the Apex Leadership Institute of SBI, I along with my team, designed and delivered programmes for the top leaders of SBI. I also designed and delivered programmes that covered all GMs and DGMs of almost every Public Sector Bank of India. A number of these banks were undergoing mergers then, e.g. OBS and Union Bank were merging with PNB. Allahabad Bank was merging with Indian Bank. Each bank and its top leaders had unique concerns and apprehensions. Some most interesting findings came up about how they felt about the merger when we did our research into the organization. It is very satisfying to note that the leadership workshops were able to contribute significantly to smoothening the process.

  • When I took over the business was fledgling and the top management had almost decided to sell it off. This was a startup within a huge organization that I headed.
  • Among the many problems that beleaguered us were transaction failures, poor sales and poorer profits. After I took over, we improved the systems and monitored the errors. We rebuilt confidence in the product and acquired hundreds of merchants. We also partnered with many banks and payment channels.
  • So, the number of transactions went up 10 folds within a year. By March 2018, we turned around and recorded profits!!!
  • The business was then never sold off but it absorbed other businesses into it.
  • All this was possible because of the intense passion my team had for the product successful.
  • They loved the business like their child.
  • This was one of my most satisfying stints in SBI.

  • This was my crucible of learning. Ah! this was the place where I grew as a trainer, where I learnt organizational behaviour and I taught it. Where I conducted human process labs and many say it changed their life. This is where I coordinated and conducted hundreds of workshops on leadership. Here I learnt and helped others learn to be self aware. Here I became aware of my own values and was able to live them. Here I helped people discover their purpose and their values. As I honed my emotional intelligence, there were participants who came and told me how they had healed their relationships- with their parents, siblings, children, bosses! Here, while I was deeply happy doing what I loved, I was also helping leaders to be more effective. If I were to be born again and asked to choose a profession and a place I know what and I know where.
  • And while working here, I also started on my doctoral degree in Organizational Behaviour (OB) from Management Development Institute, Gurgaon, where I got to learn from and also write with some of the stalwarts of OB.
