About

I drive thought leadership and market influence at the intersection of technology, business, and community, turning complex innovation into measurable impact. My career has been global and deeply client-facing, spanning industries, regions, and audiences. I am known for translating highly technical concepts into concise, compelling narratives that resonate from the C-suite to practitioners, whether in boardroom discussions, on stage, in virtual engagements, or through scalable, self-produced media. As a leader, I bring strong business acumen and a practical, hands-on approach to building and guiding teams with clarity, accountability, and focused execution. I increasingly operate through influence, shaping programs, operating rhythms, and cross-functional alignment that extend impact beyond my immediate team. I pair this with an entrepreneurial, growth-oriented mindset, continuously exploring emerging technologies and applying those insights to organizational strategy, market relevance, and execution. =•=•=•=•=•=•=•=•=•=•=•=•=•=•=•=•=•= Disclaimer: The view expressed on this web site/blog are mine and do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer.

  • The F5 DevCentral Community started in 2003 as F5's Developer Program and evolved into our Platform Developer Program. This is how our Community learns about and innovates with F5's programmability - iRules, iControl, Automation Toolchain and other tooling - to create value for their organizations over and above what we offer out of the box.
  • I have the privilege of leading a team of Community Evangelists who shepherd the program. This team of technical thought leaders help our Community of Practitioners receive the signal through the noise through published content and in-person events.
  • I'm also a member of the core team who produces F5's State of Application Strategy report. This is F5's flagship research which is used as a key data point for our corporate strategy with insights shared with our customers and partners.
  • I'm also engaging with other technical leaders in the industry to exchange insights from our ever-changing landscape and understand how leaders are integrating technology into the competitive advantage of their business.

  • I talk about Enterprise Architecture’s broad challenges like connecting for hybrid or multicloud, platform engineering, and distributed architectures such as edge computing. Community is woven through all of my work at F5.
  • ・ I get F5’s story out to the world. I communicate complex technical topics in effective ways from practitioner level to C-suite executives. I also craft messaging at the Analyst and Investor Relations level.
  • ・ I lead the strategy and creation of high-performing content. My authentic content consistently delivers higher views than across industry peer average without use of paid media.
  • ・ I build our advocates in our Community and show off the value our collective Community delivers to others.
  • ・ Technical Advisor to the CEO: 2023-2024 Secondment. I would meet directly with our CEO and supported the Office of the CEO on a number of deliverables that contributed towards corporate strategy. I gained tremendous executive-tier experience that deepened my understanding of how all areas of the company connect to overall business outcomes.
  • ・ Event Digital Media Strategy Lead: I lead a cross-functional team that develops the Digital Media Strategy for our flagship customer event. This includes content deliverables for higher tier sponsors, Comms/PR content production, Social media, Podcast services, Community videos and all the interconnecting systems. This has maximized our corporate/employee/user content generation and distribution capabilities.
  • ・ ELI5 Program Chair: I built an internal learning program that closes the communication gap that exists between engineering and non-technical staff. This program scaled reach from 0 to 800+ staff members. Narrowing this gap accelerates our ability to execute whenever an activity relies on a mix of technical and non-technical staff. The program is operated by a small team of co-leads and I remain involved to ensure we continue to align to the ethos.

  • I was eventually named a Sr. SE. Which is a title to be proud of but I’m constantly humbled by my brilliant coworkers, regardless of titles.
  • I continued to work hard and be there for my customers, through direct communication and meetings, but also 1 to many scenarios: User Group events, meet ups, social events and online through social media. When 2020 came around, we even started to do live streaming, podcasts, and really embrace the whole virtual thing as a way to stay connected with our customers. Turns out I really enjoyed it and it turned into another path for my career.
  • I left the SE role having won various internal awards, Presidents Club a couple times, coming darn close to Club a couple times, and in my final fiscal year, walking away from winning Club right before the end of the FY (no regrets) in order to pursue my next big thing.

  • Eventually, though, I found myself wanting to grow further and that’s how I ended up at F5. When I joined, F5 had a small footprint in British Columbia. Between myself and Daryl Montgomery, we took what was nearly greenfield and a brand that was fairly unknown and brought the F5 logo into a majority of the largest organizations in our territory. Combined with our company’s brand, we built incredible long term relationships built on our compounding trust and reputation over the years.

Senior Consultant - Networking and Security

  • But luckily, I found my way to an IT Value Added Reseller. I guess my new boss saw a glimmer of potential in me and hired me to put my experience to work as a Professional Services consultant. They invested a lot in me and I got to learn, expand my skills, and apply them at our customers by delivering on projects. Aside from technical skills, I developed my soft skills, project management, coordinating contractors, pitching deals, public speaking and learned how the business worked. I was grateful for being allowed to take the role as far as I could take it.

Network Operations / Support Analyst

Jan 2005May 2006 · 1 yr 4 mos

  • Finished up at BCIT and landed my first job in IT as a Help Desk Analyst at the global HQ of a big gold mining company. I moved from my little town and started working in the big city. I made life long friends and after a few months, a couple of the network guys took me under their wing. I got to take fun tasks off their plate that would otherwise be considered grunt work. I got invaluable experience working on a large global WAN and within our data center network. I got to run the fancy new VOIP system. I got to travel to our mine sites and help the local teams upgrade their network gear. I learned so much in a short amount of time. My final lesson learned at this job was what happens when your company’s stock price dips and your competitors have too much cash laying around. We were subject to a $10.4B hostile takeover and that was the end of that.
