Rajesh Kalra — CEO
An entrepreneur/journalist with over 3 decades of experience, I had worked in Print for 12 years before switching to digital in 1999. From June 2006 to August 2020, I was the Chief Editor of The Times Group Digital, the repository of everything digital of The Times of India Group. In digital, I have launched some of the biggest Digital properties in India, including the Times of India, Indiatimes, The Economic Times, Mumbai/Bangalore/Ahmedabad/Pune Mirrors, Navbharat Times (Hindi), Maharashtra Times (Marathi), Vijay Karnataka (Kannada), Ei Samay (Bengali), Navgujarat Samay (now, I am Gujarat) and the three Samayam properties in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. I served as the founder Editor of Times Interactive (as Times Internet was known then) in 1999 and launched The Times of India, The Economic Times, Indiatimes and Navbharat Times (the rest of the properties were launched after 2006). Between 1999 and 2006, I quit my formal job and became an entrepreneur during which period I ran my own Internet company, Net Consult India Pvt. Ltd. The company managed dynamic content areas of websites such as Yahoo India and MSN India soon after they started their India operations, Mantra Online and Narad Online, which was India’s first 24*7 news property. Before switching to Online in 1999, I worked in the print divisions of The Economic Times, Business Standard, The Times of India and started my career with a computer publication, Dataquest, where I rose to become its youngest Editor. I have been a member of the prestigious Prime Minister’s Olympic Task Force and the All India Council of Sports. I am a trained high-altitude mountaineer and a mountain biker who has cycled twice from Manali to Leh, from Leh to Pangong Tso and all other high passes of the world. In August, 2025, I became perhaps the first person at the age of 60 to cycle atop Umling La, currently the highest road in the world, which, at 19024 feet is higher than the Everest Base Camp. I'm a non-motorised transport evangelist and a founder trustee of the ‘Raahgiri’ Foundation. Apart from all this, I am closely involved with a school for the tribal children in Dehradun. The school, Information Technology Institute for the Tribes of India, is a free, fully residential institution that offers formal education to tribal children who come from remote corners of India. My blogs are available on Times Group’s properties in English, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu.
