Gobinthiran Kulendran 🚀 — CEO
I was born in Vanni; life threw lots of challenges - changed schools 09 times, moving home 21 times, the height of the war, losing everything except for one bag. Amidst all this, I saw a computer for the 1st time in 2005 and was enamored by what it can do. Someone told me about the search engine “Google” in 2009, and I started learning lots of stuff, including software design, web design, graphic design. I spent all my spare time hanging around in internet cafes. Made my first business deal at just 20 LKR — selling GTA Vice City game codes. That’s where the hustle began. I started doing small projects locally and earning a few hundred Rupees for it. My mother and aunt pawned their jewelry and bought me my first computer in 2011. There was a catch – there was no power in my home, so the computer was left at my aunt’s house in another district. I go there for the weekends and come home to attend school on weekdays. After some time, the power came to our village, brought the computer and kept it at a neighbor’s house. They allowed me to use it for one hour a day. After completing my A/L exams, I landed an internship as a UX Designer at a software company—my freelance portfolio was my entry ticket. I spent about 1.5 years there, gaining hands-on experience and industry exposure. With growing confidence and support from the Yarl IT Hub community, I started working with overseas clients. I had been freelancing locally since I was 13. In August 2018, I landed a UX project from the U.S. through LinkedIn. It wasn’t my first—but it was the largest-budget project at the time. I finished it in five days with almost no sleep. The client paid $1,500, which gave me a huge boost in confidence and proved that local talent could compete globally. While pursuing my B.Sc. (Hons.) in Information Technology and Management at the University of Moratuwa, I officially registered my company: huex—short for HUman EXperience. What began as a UX design agency evolved into a full-stack product studio. We tested 10+ product ideas (none worked), pivoted to helping startups build remote teams, and eventually found our niche. Since then, I’ve scaled huex into a 6+ figure ($) ARR business, registered in both Sri Lanka and Germany, serving clients across 18+ countries. We’ve earned 35+ awards and recognitions for excellence. That journey eventually led to our biggest breakthrough yet: talport! My vision is to create over 10,000+ jobs in the Northern Province and contribute $1B+ to its GDP — revitalizing a region that was deeply affected by the war.
