After two decades, here’s the academically spicy truth: FP&A: Everyone wants “crystal insights.” Nobody gives data. I’m basically a licensed mind reader. Controllership: Being the strict parent of adults who think Excel formulas are magical spells. Treasury: Everyone wants perfect cashflow. Nobody wants to stop spending. Liquidity is a group hallucination. International Tax & TP: Countries disagree with each other. Teams disagree with reality. Authorities disagree with math. Funding: Explaining to founders that “valuation” ≠ “vibes.” Due Diligence: Discovering things even founders tried to forget. M&A: Buying companies is easy. Understanding what you actually bought is spiritual pain. Automation: Leaders want dashboards—then ignore them and ask for the same Excel. Evolution in reverse. Compliance: Saying “No” politely until people start hearing “Maybe.” 👉 Finance is 10% numbers, 40% therapy, 50% reminding adults that math is not optional.
