Most of the women I work with are high performers. They are reliable, conscientious, and deeply committed to doing excellent work. They deliver results, take ownership, and are often the ones everyone depends on. And yet, many of them find themselves stuck. They are told to โ€œbe more strategic,โ€ without anyone explaining what that actually means. They are passed over for promotion despite years of consistent performance. They watch less capable peers move ahead while they remain in the same role, carrying more responsibility with less recognition. Over time, they begin to feel invisible in rooms where decisions are made. It is not because they are not good enough, but because leadership is not a result of hard work alone. Earlier in my career, I was a high-performing expert who believed that flawless execution and long hours would naturally lead to growth. They didnโ€™t. When I began to change how I showed up, how I positioned my value, and built visibility and influence, leadership opportunities started to follow. I went on to become a Managing Director in a UK bank.
