About

I’m a technology and infrastructure leader with deep experience running large-scale, business-critical platforms in complex, regulated environments. I stay technically credible and close to the detail, working directly with engineering teams while helping senior leaders make clear, informed decisions about risk, cost, and delivery. I’m currently Head of Infrastructure at Evoke, supporting global brands including William Hill, 888, and Mr Green. I lead distributed engineering teams across the UK, Europe, and Israel, accountable for platforms that operate under constant commercial, regulatory, and availability pressure. A core focus of my role is improving the economics and resilience of infrastructure at scale. This includes modernising legacy estates, shaping private and hybrid cloud strategy, and simplifying operating models to reduce waste, remove unnecessary complexity, and ensure technology investment delivers real business value. Automation is a core lever in how I run infrastructure. I focus on reducing manual intervention, improving consistency, and making systems easier to operate and reason about at scale. This includes treating infrastructure as code, enabling self-service where it makes sense, and using automation to remove failure modes rather than simply responding to them. I see AI as an accelerant rather than a shortcut. Used well, it can improve observability, incident response, and decision support for engineers and leaders. Used badly, it adds noise and false confidence on top of fragile systems. I’m particularly interested in how AI can augment operational judgement, surface weak signals earlier, and shift teams from reactive firefighting towards preventative work. I work where strategy becomes execution. I partner closely with senior stakeholders and boards to turn technical complexity into clear options and trade-offs, while supporting teams in strengthening reliability and day-to-day operational discipline. Developing people is central to how I lead. I take a servant-leadership approach, coaching senior engineers and leaders, setting clear expectations, and creating environments where good engineering judgement is trusted and accountability is explicit. Always open to connecting with people who care about sustainable platforms, strong teams, and technology that earns its keep.

  • Led infrastructure engineering across four teams (~30 engineers) and three regulated gaming brands (William Hill, 888, Mr Green). Accountable for on-prem, private cloud and hybrid platforms operating under constant availability, regulatory and commercial pressure.
  • Stepped up during sustained organisational change, covering multiple senior responsibilities concurrently while maintaining delivery, cost control and team stability. Performance in this role led directly to promotion to Head of Engineering.
  • Leadership of multi-brand infrastructure estates covering data centres, VMware, storage, networking and AWS
  • Senior stakeholder management, vendor negotiation, contracts, renewals and procurement
  • Scaled and developed teams to ~30 engineers with strong internal promotion, retention and engagement
  • Maintained delivery and morale through mergers, restructures and cost-reduction programmes
  • Personally delivered £2.4m+ in cost savings (c. £1.0m annualised) through hands-on vendor negotiation, major savings across Oracle, IBM, Commvault, Equinix, power and data centre contracts
  • Led repatriation of workloads from VMC/public cloud back on-prem, delivering £840k+ annual run-rate savings
  • Challenged “cloud-first” assumptions using evidence-based cost and risk models
  • Defined standardised deployment patterns for Pure Storage and Synergy frames, for cost effective and moder on-prem provision. Shaped hybrid infrastructure strategy balancing cost, risk, supportability and speed
  • Led complex platform and data-centre migrations without incident, with a high-trust, high-accountability engineering culture with consistent Agile delivery
  • Recognised for calm leadership under pressure, clear prioritisation, and plain-spoken decision-making around risk, cost and trade-offs.

Infrastructure Engineering Team Leader

Feb 2019Feb 2022 · 3 yrs

  • Led a team of ~10 infrastructure engineers, accountable for operational stability, delivery, and team health across the William Hill Estate.
  • Converted the team from paper-based workload tracking to Agile backlog and sprint-based delivery for project work
  • Reworked incident and ticket management, embedding a “fix it and keep it fixed” culture and rewarding proactive remediation rather than firefighting and hero culture.
  • Reduced BAU incident handling effort from 2–3 FTE to ~0.5–1 FTE, freeing capacity for engineering and improvement work
  • Provided traditional line management with a servant leadership approach, using regular 1:1s focused on mentoring, coaching, and individual development rather than status reporting
  • Introduced a 10% protected training allowance per engineer to support continuous professional development.
  • Improved team engagement (eNPS from -23 to 89 over ~18 months) and led the team through the Covid period with minimal attrition and sustained delivery
