About

How many lifetimes? Growing up, I was always told that India is a developing country. I moved to UK for work in 2004 with my wife. We lived in a small village called Kidlington (4 miles from Oxford). And for the first time, I understood what it meant, when somebody said "India is a developing country" The developed state was right in front of me and i couldn't help ask myself - "How many 'lifetimes' would it take for India to become a developed country?" This was 2004. I gave myself 2 years to come back to India and start something meaningful in the social space. 2 years later, as promised, we started to look at several ideas that could bring about social change at scale, including: - Address the issue of child labour holistically - Create doorstep rural employment - A media portal to bridge the empathy gap in India and many more... We stumbled upon microcredit when Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank in Bangladesh were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2006 for their incredible work with Microcredit. For me, Microcredit was (and is) one of the most powerful tools to make India a “developed” nation, if done the right way. That's when Smita and I decided to launch Rang De - a social peer-to-peer lending platform for rural entrepreneurs. We have been providing microcredit to rural entrepreneurs at 4 to 10% interest rate for over 14 years and have impacted many lives. I am grateful to have 20k+ Social Investors who have joined our peer-to-peer lending platform to bring this change. We have a long way to go but I am proud of what we have done so far. I truly believe that microcredit can make India a developed nation in "my lifetime". Visit rangde.in to invest in change!
