• As the Chief Officer, the second-in-command, sailing on crude oil tankers my role was to head the deck department. I was the designated cargo officer and responsible for safe planning, loading, stowage, care and discharge of cargo. Supervising and directing the cargo operations was one of the key roles, to ensure that the stresses and stability of the vessel are always within limits. I was the appointed Safety officer, Ship security officer , Medical Officer & Ballast Water Management officer on-board. I was responsible for maintenance of Lifesaving and firefighting appliances and safety equipment on deck and guiding the third officer in planning and carrying out the maintenance. My Responsibilities included:
•  Training of Deck Cadets, planning and execution of safety training and emergency drill schedules
