About

I am a full-time faculty member at the Robert Bosch Center for Cyber Physical Systems with a joint appointment with the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. My broad research interests are in the analysis and design of dynamical systems and networks using tools from control theory, optimization, communication theory and machine learning. Specific areas of interest include security and privacy for cyber-physical systems, sparse feedback control design, distributed detection, estimation and control, networked control systems and robust control.

  • The focus of my research was to apply theoretical techniques from communication, detection and estimation, control systems and signal processing to design and analyze cyber-physical systems in presence of communication and privacy constraints.
  • Rate Control for Cyber-Physical Systems
  • Developed a rate control protocol (similar to TCP) to avoid data congestion in a communication network used specifically for remote monitoring of multiple dynamical processes. Analyzed the stability of the protocol in presence of network delays.
  • Intruder detection Using multiple sensors
  • Derived an optimal sequential detection test for binary hypothesis testing using multiple sensors and proved using dynamic programming that it is equivalent to the standard Sequential Probability Ratio Test.
  • Privacy in Multi-agent Dynamical Systems
  • Developed a differential privacy mechanism to prevent an intruder from obtaining sensitive information about the dynamics of the agent. Proposed a method to vary the cooperation level among the agents to achieve the best performance in presence of the privacy mechanism.
  • Collision Avoidance in Autonomous Highway Systems
  • Proposed a safe inter-vehicle distance maintaining strategy in which the lead vehicle periodically communicates with the preceding vehicles in the platoon and characterized the minimum time period required for ensuring the stability of the platoon.

  • Exponential Companding for Reduction of PAPR in OFDM Systems
  • Improved the companding function used for PAPR reduction in OFDM systems by introducing a new companding parameter.
  • The modified companding technique achieved better performance in terms of PAPR reduction, Bit Error Rate, and spectral properties in presence of Rayleigh and Gaussian channels.

  • Construction and Implementation of Error Correcting Codes in Constrained Wireless Networks:
  • Implemented a class of Quasi – Cyclic LDPC codes for Ad-hoc networks on wireless motes and measured their performance in Point-to-Point, Master-Slave and Ring network topologies.
  • The QC-LDPC codes outperformed random LDPC codes and Viterbi codes in terms of error performance, complexity and power requirements in a resource-constrained scenario.
