AI is the most misunderstood technology since the internet. I know, because I was there for that one too. Here are five things I believe that most people in tech disagree with: 1. You should own your software, not rent it. The SaaS model trained an entire generation of businesses to pay forever for something they'll never own. That's not innovation - that's a subscription to dependency. 2. AI doesn't replace people. It exposes how badly we've been using them. Most companies have brilliant people doing mind-numbing work. AI doesn't take their jobs - it finally gives them one worth doing. 3. The best AI implementation starts with defining outcomes, not scope of work. If your AI vendor doesn't talk about outcomes first, or does not show a clear path to the desired outcome (possibly with a ROI calculator) run, run fast! 4. Data sovereignty isn't a feature. It's a right. Your data, your infrastructure, your asset. Full stop. 5. Small companies can out-build big ones now. AI has broken the old scaling rules. A focused team with the right methodology can deliver in weeks what used to take enterprise vendors years and millions of dollars. I've been an early adopter my whole life. I saw the web before most people had email, left Bank of America to start a web design company from my living room floor, and I've spent the decades since teaching, consulting, and building at the edge of whatever's coming next. Today I run GoZupees, where we build AI-native platforms and voice agents for telecoms and ISPs. But I'm a teacher first.
